Lead County Directors

Lead County Directors are used to support new directors early in their appointment. These Lead County Directors receive supplemental compensation to work intensively with new directors and others as needed.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of Lead County Directors include partnering with the Regional Director to support County Directors by:

  • a) serving as an administrative mentor to new County Directors in the region or elsewhere in the state as assigned.
  • b) making on-site visits at least 2 times during first year to observe, answer questions, advise to insure new directors’ success.
  • c) initiating monthly contact with new County Directors to monitor progress, answer questions, and offer guidance when appropriate.
  • d) participating with new County Directors at the new County Director training.
  • e) being aware of and skilled in critical areas of county unit leadership and management including performance management of personnel, county budget development, workplace environment, corrective action, advisory committee development and management; and public and political relations. Assist with coaching new County Directors in these areas as appropriate.
  • f) with the regional director, stay abreast of current administrative policies, decisions, deadlines, etc. so as to be well prepared to counsel new directors in these areas.
  • g) assist with planning, developing, conducting and evaluating county director roundtables in their respective regions.
  • h) assist experienced County Directors as needed.
